The Johnson-Stoddard-Osness families settled around Kent in the late 1890s and early 1900s. James Osness wanted to honor the names of his parents and grandparents and established this scholarship for that purpose. James and his brother, Ralph, were the first in their family to go to college and they desired to “pay it forward” with this scholarship.
— Applicants will be a graduate of a high school in the Kent School District.— Priority will be given to applicants being the first in their family to attend college. — Applicant will be pursuing post secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM).
